Client Reflections
What families have shared with us.
We are grateful to the clients who have taken time to tell us how they found the experience of working with Akar Kasih. Their words, offered here in their own terms, say more than we could say about ourselves.

In their own words.
I came to Akar Kasih after a long period of not knowing what to do about the custody arrangement for my grandchildren. The solicitor did not rush me. She explained things clearly and, at the end of the first session, gave me a written note of everything we had discussed. I felt settled for the first time in months.
The custody variation process was much less adversarial than I had feared, and I credit that partly to how the firm framed the application. Ahmad Khairul was thorough and kept me informed after every court date with a written update. I always knew where things stood. The fee was transparent from the start — no surprises.
My daughter and I came together for the family consultation because I was not confident I would remember everything on my own. The solicitor was clearly accustomed to this kind of session — she made sure my daughter understood that her role was to support, not to decide. That distinction mattered a great deal to me.
I had gone to a larger firm first and felt like a file number. Akar Kasih felt entirely different. The response time was quick, and when I called with a question, I was put through to the solicitor directly rather than an assistant who had to relay everything. For me, that kind of access was what made the experience workable.
The long-term family plan was something I had been meaning to put together for several years. The process was structured but not rigid. We covered my parents' arrangements, the property question that had been sitting awkwardly, and my own will — all in a form I could actually read and refer back to. The annual review option is there if I want it, but it is not expected of me.
I was referred to Akar Kasih by a friend who said the firm was good at handling matters that involved elderly parents. She was right. The solicitor understood that the conversation was sensitive and moved at a pace that allowed my mother to follow. The written summary was genuinely helpful for our family to discuss afterward.
Detailed accounts
Three situations, described at length.
Elderly mother, adult children, and an unresolved custody question
A client in her mid-sixties came with two adult children. There was a grandchild's custody matter that had remained unresolved for two years. The family had avoided addressing it directly because previous legal encounters had been stressful. They were not sure whether the matter was even actionable.
We ran an initial family consultation session with both adult children present. The solicitor helped the family understand what options existed under Malaysian law, what would be required to pursue a variation, and what the realistic range of outcomes was. The session produced a written note that gave the family a shared reference point.
Having a clear, shared understanding within the family reduced the interpersonal friction that had delayed action. The client engaged us for a custody variation application the following month. The matter was resolved within four months with a variation order that reflected the children's changed circumstances.

A family with ageing parents and no written arrangements
A client in his fifties came alone. Both parents were still living but in declining health. There were property questions, a will that was decades old and no longer reflected the family's situation, and two adult siblings in disagreement about what arrangements should be made. He wanted something settled before things became more complicated.
We engaged the client on a long-term family plan. Over three sessions, we built a written plan that addressed the property questions, updated the framework for the wills, and set out parental care arrangements in a form that the siblings could each receive a copy of. The plan was drafted to reduce rather than generate future disputes.
The client reported that sharing the plan with the siblings — a written, professionally prepared document rather than his own version of family discussions — changed the tone of their conversations. One sibling engaged a separate solicitor to review it; the other accepted it without question. The plan is reviewed annually at the client's option.

A father seeking access variation after relocation
A client had relocated from Penang to Kuala Lumpur for work. The existing access order no longer matched his situation or his children's school schedules. He had attempted to agree a variation informally with the other parent, but those discussions had stalled.
We filed an application for variation of the access order, framing it around the children's welfare and the logistical reality of both parents' changed circumstances. We corresponded with the other party's solicitor in a measured tone that kept the matter from escalating. The approach reduced the likelihood of contested hearings.
The matter was resolved by consent order after two hearings. The revised access arrangement reflected the children's school year and the father's working schedule. Both parents agreed to the new terms without proceeding to a contested hearing — an outcome the client had not thought likely when he first came to us.
