We use your personal data for the following purposes, each of which rests on a lawful basis under the PDPA:
- Responding to your enquiry — We process your contact details and message to reply to you and, where appropriate, to arrange a consultation. Legal basis: your consent and the performance of a potential legal services contract.
- Providing legal services — Where you engage us, we process the personal data necessary to carry out our instructions. Legal basis: performance of a legal services agreement.
- Complying with legal obligations — We may process personal data to comply with our professional obligations under Malaysian law. Legal basis: legal obligation.
- Improving our website — Aggregated and anonymised data about how visitors use the website helps us improve it. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in maintaining a functional website.
We do not use your personal data for marketing purposes without your express consent.
3. Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected:
- Enquiries that did not lead to an engagement: retained for 12 months after your last contact with us, then deleted.
- Client files: retained for a minimum of seven years after the conclusion of the matter, in accordance with our professional obligations and applicable limitation periods under Malaysian law.
- Website analytics data: retained in aggregated form. No personally identifiable analytics data is retained beyond 26 months.
4. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your personal data. We may share it in the following limited circumstances:
- With courts and regulatory bodies — Where required in the conduct of a legal matter on your behalf or by a legal obligation.
- With professional advisers — Including counsel, experts, or other advisers engaged in connection with your matter, only to the extent necessary and subject to confidentiality obligations.
- With IT service providers — Our document management and email systems are operated by third-party providers who process data on our behalf under data processing agreements. These providers are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
All sharing of client personal data outside the firm requires your consent unless it is required by law or by the conduct of your legal matter.
