Why Akar Kasih
The difference is in how carefully we work.
Family law is practised in many ways. We have chosen a quieter, more deliberate one — and our clients find that it suits the nature of the matters they bring to us.
← Back to HomeWhat we bring
Six things our clients appreciate most.
Personal attention from qualified solicitors
Every client at Akar Kasih works directly with an admitted solicitor — not a paralegal who passes notes to a partner you rarely see. You speak to the person doing the work.
Family law as our only focus
We do not divide our attention across commercial, criminal, and property work. Family law is what we do. That focus means we think in family law terms every day, and our advice is sharpened by that specialisation.
Children's welfare remains primary
In any matter involving children, we measure every recommendation against the question of whether it serves the children's long-term interests. This shapes how we advise, how we draft, and how we conduct proceedings.
Everything documented in plain language
After every meeting or hearing, we provide a written summary in plain English. You will always know where things stand, what was agreed, and what the next step is — without needing to decode legal vocabulary.
Clear, agreed fees before work begins
Our service fees are published and agreed in writing at the start of every engagement. Disbursements are listed separately. You will not receive a surprise invoice at the end of a difficult matter.
A private, calm office environment
Our Jalan Pudu office is arranged for private meetings. There are no open-plan counters where other clients overhear your conversation. Family matters deserve a more careful setting than that.
Professional Expertise
Our solicitors have practised family law in Malaysia for a combined period exceeding twenty years. That experience encompasses the Subordinate Courts and High Court, contested and uncontested proceedings, and the full range of personal law matters that non-Muslim families encounter. We keep current through Bar Council seminars and family law publications, so our advice reflects how the courts are actually deciding matters today — not how they decided them a decade ago.
Process and Methodology
We follow a structured process for every engagement: an initial listening session, a written assessment of options, an agreed plan of action, and a written summary after each significant step. This structure does not make the work feel bureaucratic — it makes it feel held. Clients consistently tell us that knowing the process gives them confidence during a period when so much else feels uncertain.
Technology and Practical Efficiency
We use secure, encrypted document management systems and offer clients the option of video consultations where a physical visit is not practical. Court documents are prepared digitally and filed electronically where the court system permits. These efficiencies reduce time and cost without removing the human element from the work.
Client Service and Communication
We respond to client enquiries within one business day. Our client relations team ensures that no message goes unanswered and that any question — no matter how small — is addressed directly. We do not place clients on hold or route communications through multiple intermediaries. The person who knows your matter is the person you will speak with.
Value and Pricing
Our fees are set to reflect the actual time and skill a matter requires, not to maximise billing. The published prices for our three core services represent complete engagement fees for the scope described. For matters that expand in scope, we discuss and agree any additional fees before the extra work begins. We believe that transparent pricing reduces anxiety and builds a working relationship based on trust.
Results and Outcomes
We measure the success of our work not only by legal outcomes, but by the state in which families emerge from a legal process. A custody variation that was handled with restraint and goodwill on both sides leaves less damage than one that was litigated aggressively — even if both reach the same legal result. We keep that longer view in mind throughout.
How we compare
Akar Kasih versus the typical approach.
Not every firm approaches family law the same way. Here is how our way of working differs from what families often encounter elsewhere.
| What families typically find | Typical providers | Akar Kasih |
|---|---|---|
| Direct access to the solicitor handling your matter | Often routed through juniors | Always direct |
| Published fee schedule | Rarely disclosed upfront | Published on website |
| Written summary after every meeting | Not standard practice | Always provided |
| Family consultation with adult children welcome | Rarely offered | Dedicated service |
| Long-term legal planning (not just one-off advice) | Typically transaction-only | Available with annual review |
| Response to enquiries within one business day | Variable | Firm commitment |
What makes us different
Distinctive features of our practice.
Family-inclusive consultation format
Our family consultation service — which allows adult children to be present and engaged — is something very few legal practices in Kuala Lumpur offer as a deliberate, structured service. We recognised that many clients feel more confident and more at ease when a trusted family member can hear what the solicitor says alongside them.
Optional annual review — no automatic renewal
Our long-term family plan does not carry any expectation that you will continue engaging us. The annual review is an offer, not a subscription. This approach is unusual in legal practice, but we believe it reflects the right relationship between a firm and the families it serves.
No pressure, no urgency tactics
We do not use language designed to create anxiety about timing or outcomes. We will tell you what the law requires within what timeframe, but we will not manufacture urgency to push you into decisions. Family law matters deserve a clearer head than that kind of pressure allows.
Plain-English documentation as standard
We have made plain-English summaries a non-negotiable part of every engagement, not an optional extra. Legal documents will always be in their proper legal form, but the explanations we give you are in language you can read back to a family member without a law degree.
